Dances
The mission of the Alternative Activities Committee is to provide a safe, teen-friendly atmosphere for the youth of Campbell County. The committee has sponsored dances since June of 2000, most of them at Baileys in downtown Gillette, Wyoming, thanks to the generosity of the owner of the establishment.
Most of the dances have a theme such as Mardi Gras, Spring Fling, Snow Ball, Winter Beach Blast, etc. The kids on the committee make the decisions about the theme, what decorations will be used, if refreshments will be served and what they will be, how to advertise the dance, etc. The adults involved help to make sure that these things happen, but it is mainly the responsibility of the kids to carry them out. The members of the committee also do all the decorating, and cleaning up after each event.
We want kids to realize that they can have fun, real fun, without having alcohol and other drugs included. So far we feel we have been successful in accomplishing that.
We invite any teens in Campbell County to become part of the Alternative Activities Committee. We generally meet on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 at Baileys to plan the next event. For more information, contact Carol Yonkee, coordinator, at 686-7192.
