During a typical day in second grade, students read, study math facts, solve math problems, write stories and poems, work on computers, and go to Art, Music or Physical Education. Their favorite part of the day is centers and math where they practice addition and subtraction and learn about measuring.

Reading is an important part of the second grader's day, and they have many favorite books. Some of their favorites are "Incredible Ned", "Amelia Bedelia", "Winnie the Pooh", "The Boxcar Children" series, "The Magic Schoolbus" series, any book by Steven Kellogg, and holiday stories.

Second graders use computers in their classroom and also go to the computer lab to learn. They use KidPix, Type to Learn Jr., Microsoft Word and Dance Mat Typing. Sometimes they use the Internet for special projects.

They take field trips to the Planetarium to learn about stars and planets. They go the Adventurarium, which is a "hands-on" science center. Each year they attend a special Arts in Education performance. They also attend the Industry in Education Expo every other year.
