Paintbrush Elementary School incorporates a developmental guidance and counseling program for its kindergarten through Sixth Grade students. The focus of the program is to help students understand themselves and others, their attitudes and behaviors, to develop decision-making and problem-solving skills, to develop interpersonal and communication skills, to promote a healthy sense of self, to develop school-success skills, to deal successfully with the many changes in children's lives in today's society, and to have fun in the process of growing.

Guidance interventions occur during whole-classroom presentations as well as small group counseling and one-on-one sessions with students.

The scope of the distict counseling objectives relates to topics such as personal privacy, sexual harassment, bullying and victimization, peer influence, feelings and appropriate expressions of emotions, coping with peer pressure, consequences of behavior, dealing with family change, coping with stress, problem solving techniques, and conflict resolution.
