An elementary school nurse
is a very busy person. In addition to caring for ill or injured
students on a day-to-day basis, the nurse is also responsible
for the following:
Routine
screening
(or per parent request) for hearing, vision, height, weight,
and scoliosis
Vision/hearing referrals
to specialists as needed
Physician referrals
as needed
Throat cultures for
strep
Medication administration
Health assessments
Emergency care for injured
students
Health/wellness education
Maturation education
as part of the 5th & 6th grade health education curriculum
Communicable diseases
and disease prevention education
Assessment of immunizations
in accordance with the requirements from the WY State Department
of Health
Assessment of students
for high risk health concerns which includes the implementation
of Health Care Plans
Student and family education
regarding health issues
