Poison Prevention Tips

An elementary school nurse is a very busy person. In addition to caring for ill or injured students on a day-to-day basis, the nurse is also responsible for the following:

  • Routine screening (or per parent request) for hearing, vision, height, weight, and scoliosis
  • Vision/hearing referrals to specialists as needed
  • Physician referrals as needed
  • Throat cultures for strep
  • Medication administration
  • Health assessments
  • Emergency care for injured students
  • Health/wellness education
  • Maturation education as part of the 5th & 6th grade health education curriculum
  • Communicable diseases and disease prevention education
  • Assessment of immunizations in accordance with the requirements from the WY State Department of Health
  • Assessment of students for high risk health concerns which includes the implementation of Health Care Plans
  • Student and family education regarding health issues
