4285 Supervision of Student Behavior

  • Every District employee has the responsibility to assist in the overall supervision of student behavior. It is the employee's duty to enforce district policy, administrative regulations and generally accepted discipline measures. This includes classrooms, assigned areas, other areas of school property, and at school activities.
    When a District employee deems it necessary, they may use such physical force as may be reasonable and necessary to restrain or control a student, to exclude or remove a student from a classroom, school area, or school activity, or to escort a student to the principal's office or other appropriate area when:
    • The student, by their words or actions, is threatening or endangering himself or herself, other students, or District staff;
    • The student refuses to cooperate and comply with the reasonable direction of an employee.

    In any circumstances, a District staff member shall have the right of self defense.
