Junior Kindergarten Information

The junior kindergarten program is an opportunity for children to have an extra year of learning development. In addition to having excellent opportunities for learning from a certified teacher, as well as a paraprofessional in each classroom, JK children will also participate in art, music, and physical education.

• The program is for kids identified as needing an extra year to prepare for kindergarten. To be considered, the child must be five years old on or before Sept. 15 and they must have taken CCSD's kindergarten screening assessment.
• CCSD has five JK classrooms & size is limited to 14 students in each classroom. The number is less than kindergarten's classroom size in order to provide more individual support.
• JK classrooms run five days a week - Monday through Friday, all day long. Transportation is provided and JK follows CCSD's school calendar.
• CCSD's JK program uses the state's Early Learning Standards, which are provided by the Wyoming Department of Education. The curriculum provides learning in all areas of development. JK works at a slower pace than kindergarten classrooms to allow more time for academic, social and emotional growth. 
• Once a child completes a year in the JK classroom, he or she continues on to kindergarten at their school.

The JumpStart program is a summer program for kids about to enter kindergarten. Enrollment is based on kindergarten screening scores. A variety of learning activities based on each child's individual needs will be provided.

JumpStart offers a small group setting, with each student working closely with the teacher.

The Ready 4 Learning program is funded and supported by Title I Part A Preschool. The purpose of the program is to assist students in being prepared for success in kindergarten.

There are two ways to qualify:

1. Family lives in a Title I elementary school attendance area: 

• Conestoga, Cottonwood, Hillcrest, Lakeview, Meadowlark, Rawhide, Recluse, Rozet, Stocktrail, Sunflower and Wagonwheel. 

2. Family lives in any of the following situations within Campbell County: 

• In a shelter, motel, campground, car, park, abandoned building, a bus/train station or inadequate housing. 
• Doubled up with other people due to loss of housing or financial hardship.

What is Ready 4 Learning?

• Ready 4 Learning is taught by certified elementary school teachers with Early Childhood endorsements. 
• The free pre-school program is open to kids who qualify and are four years old on or before Sept. 15, 2025. 
• The year-long program offers two schedules: Monday and Wednesday class days or Tuesday and Thursday class days. For more information, click on the flyer - Ready 4 Learning Flyer.
