Westwood students enjoy a well-earned pie day

Westwood students enjoy a well-earned pie day

Michele Bradley and Shawna McIlnay were dressed for success this morning.

Decked out in goggles, trash bags, and hairnets, the two bravely made their way outside Westwood High School to face their reckoning. Within minutes, Sara and Hailey delivered the well-earned prize – whipped cream pies, served directly to the face.

How did they earn such a distinct honor? Great question.

Throughout October, Westwood teachers raised money and awareness for breast cancer. The teachers of the classes that raised the highest amounts “won” a pie to the face. The students chosen to do the pie-smashing were drawn from those who donated canned food as part of this month’s food drive.

In total, Westwood students raised $169 for cancer awareness and collected 175 cans of food.

This morning’s pie-smashing spectacle was a fun finale to two successful schoolwide projects. And to Bradley and McIlnay’s credit, they took those pies like pros – right on the chin … and the nose … and the goggles.
