GATE (Gifted and Talented Education)
GATE Mission Statement
CCSD believes that students who are identified as having demonstrated or having the potential to demonstrate, ”an exceptional level of performance in one or more areas of expression” (NAGC) require special services related to their areas of identified talent. CCSD is committed to identifying and serving students of identified high abilities. Therefore, the mission of the CCSD GATE program is to strive to provide educational interventions, which sustain, challenge and ensure continued growth.
The GATE Program in Campbell County School District is comprised of two parts, Gifted and Talented and Enrichment. The curriculum in the Gifted and Talented program focuses on Critical and Creative Thinking, Problem Solving Strategies, Affective Skills, Research Skills, Learning/Study/Organizational Skills, and Career Exploration. The students are pulled out for the Gifted and Talented for two hours a week in third grade and three hours a week fourth through sixth grade.
The GATE Program in Campbell County School District is comprised of two parts, Gifted and Talented and Enrichment. The enrichment segment of the GATE program is available to students Kindergarten through sixth grade. The enrichment program focuses on providing more in-depth activities in language arts and math. The GATE teacher is also available to provide enrichment activities for the students in the regular classroom.
The Gifted and Talented segment of the GATE program is for students in third through sixth grade who are placed based on standardized test scores, ability test scores, classroom achievement, and or teacher recommendation. Students are placed into the enrichment program based on standardized test scores and or teacher recommendation from classroom performance.
Campbell County School District recognizes the special academic abilities of students in particular areas. CCSD defines giftedness as:
- Students possessing and demonstrating high academic achievement and/or aptitude in one or more areas of expression as determined by the appropriate evaluations
- Students needing differentiated instruction and/or gifted education services in order to realize these potentialities
